Journey with us into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCA). The BWCA is a million acre wilderness in northern Minnesota where travel is primarily by canoe. You'll experience the wild beauty of the boreal forest as you paddle, camp and portage over five days through this remote area.

Dates: September 12-16, 2023

Cost: $500 Includes lodging, transportation, gear, permit, packing list and training plan.

          $200 is due at time of registration. Balance is due on/by August 1, 2023.

THE ROUTE

The 25 mile route will be through a series of lakes/rivers and over portage trails. Each day we'll paddle and carry our gear over trails, finally camping each night at a scenic and secluded, primitive campsite. Included is one layover day to rest, relax and explore.

GOOD TO KNOW

You will need to be comfortable carrying a 44 pound canoe or a 45 pound pack over hilly and uneven portage trails (multiple portages of varying length up to a half-mile). We'll provide a suggested packing list and training plan for this adventure. This event is being lead by Thrive Leader Pam Wright who has over 20 years of leading and guiding wilderness trips in the BWCA.

DIFFICULTY

We consider this a moderate to challenging trip. Difficulty will depend on your fitness level and changes due to weather and seasonal conditions.

PRE-TRIP ORIENTATION

A pre-trip meeting will take place the evening of September 9th in Hudson, WI. You'll be expected to attend as we'll provide important details that will help you prepare. You will also need bring your personal gear to pack.

CANOEING

You do not need to know how to canoe, instruction will be provided.

PORTAGING

Portage trails vary in length and difficulty. They may be muddy, wet, full of roots or rocks, hilly or brushy. Portaging instruction will be provided.

WEATHER

Weather in September can vary from 30º at night to mid 70º's during the day. Rain, frost and sleet can occur.

GEAR

All group gear is provided. This includes things like tents, canoes and life vests. You'll receive a packing list after you register.

CANCELLATION

A full refund will be given on or by August 1st, 2023. No refunds after unless we can fill your spot.
